Particularly 2K
In recent years sports games have both blown up incredibly in popularity but also in laziness. To demonstrate here are 2 pictures of NBA 2k21:
As you can see these are 2 pictures from NBA 2K21 right, well no the first picture is from 2k21 and the second is from 2k20 as you can see the 2k team didn't even take the effort into building a new character creation screen. Well it makes sense as there was only a difference of a year between both games to really change many aspects it takes time to build or change up an annual franchise like 2k but considering they use the same engine the same gameplay the same identical models the same character creation, you'd think they would have enough time to fix the overall gameplay of 2k21 which is still exactly the same and is broken, they still had a year you'd think they would attempt to fix these jarring issues like how the shot meter is completely broken regardless of how good your shot is they make us excuses like how its early, slightly early, late etc etc, the weird part is your character constantly loses their ball when they get close to the oppositions players, they could have fixed these issues that could have made this game more technical and realistic but no its these cartoonish mistakes that bog this game and make it unplayable by ‘’this game’’ I am referring to both 2K20 and 2K21 because they both are the same game.
The worst part about how NBA2K21 and 20 is how you can't possibly have fun with the game or be good at it without unloading all your mom's savings on it, if somebody is purchasing a game for 60$ then why should they be forced to pay another 60$ just so they can be at par with others and also not be horrible at it and also why hasn't anybody said anything about how 2k legit has casinos in their games which is played by kids as well. Pokémon had to remove casinos from their games as people said it was encouraging gambling to children but this is okay at least in Pokémon you're using in game money which is far less dangerous and harmful in a real world sense unlike 2K where you gamble with actual money in the form of 2K coins, I'm fine with microtransactions if its for cosmetic or aesthetic reasons thus nobody is at an unfair position and the developers can still get the money they yearn. Also why on earth do they get all these famous actors which probably demand a lot of money just for a few scenes instead of getting these famous actors why don't they invest that into gameplay. The game also looks worse than 2k20 weirdly enough like how do you even do that. But even with all of this 2K will not change this pattern or this style for a few more games at the least because this is how much they earned from 2k21.
Oh by the way did I mention the game is now 70 dollars because as Take 2 entertainment CEO puts it “We announced a $70 price point for NBA 2K21, and our view was that we’re offering an array of extraordinary experiences, lots of re-playability.”
This all goes back to the same point people keep making jokes and talking about how sports games and franchises do nothing new and suck and etc etc. Activision, EA, Ubisoft are the devil but what's the best selling games each year:
Again EA, Activision, Ubisoft are the best selling games of each year. These companies will never change their attitude towards making good games if they can get away with selling the same game every year and now at 10$ more and that's what this all boils down to, "praising repetition" why would companies change their bad practices if people keep empowering them.
