The Poignant Poison of Procrastination

What is procrastination?

The feeling of “I have plenty of time”, “I can do it later”, is called procrastination, most people procrastinate to some extent. As a matter of fact, I procrastinated writing this very article!

Where do we procrastinate?

And sadly, there are multiple places where people procrastinate, these include;

• Assignments

• Health Check ups

• Exercising

• Waking up

What can we do to counter this?

This is for me, my preference very well may be separate from yours! But none the less, this is what I have done.

Delay:

After missed deadline with, every passing day the number of handwriting pages double.

Eq. 2^x * 1 pages with x as the number of days post the deadline.

So, 1st day after deadline – 2^1 * 1 page(s) = 2 pages

2nd day after deadline – 2^2 * 1 page(s) = 4 pages

Writing an entire page that too in spotless writing is an extremely tedious task, this ensures I have incentive to not delay and even if I do delay, the exponential growth of the number of pages ensures I submit it as fast as possible.

Timely:

For submitting on time I get 15 minutes of free time as a baseline and extends with every other timely submission.

Also, this does not carry over.

I also will keep a spreadsheet with all the things to do, so I don’t forget.

Does it work?

So, it's been 12 days since I started using this method, and to great success! I have not missed any assignments and projects lest one. But to be fair, I had forgotten to add that project to my excel, so when I referenced my excel, it seemed that I had done everything when in reality, I hadn’t. So here I am, with 8 pages of handwriting to do. Let’s just say I am not stoked.

However, this method works! I have not forgotten any of the assignments(that I remembered to Ctrl V'ed onto that excel sheet), and I truly think we can all implement this to make sure we don’t fall within the grasps of procrastination.

In Conclusion

I doubt I will keep using this as it is extremely tedious, and plus the possibility of my parents’ shouting serve as enough motivation to keep up with my deadlines.

But in case anyone else would like to use this method, I would I highly recommend it (with custom fit punishments and rewards of course!) as it truly works.
